Positive development and the increasing importance of export business

Reinert International

Our activities abroad constitute a vital element for Reinert. The Reinert group is currently generating 38% of its total revenue abroad; this is to increase to 50% by 2020. The family business started to operate beyond the national borders over 30 years ago. Today, Reinert exports its products to 31 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. All countries work closely with the international export team in Versmold. Collectively, Reinert is the industry leading exporting company in Germany.

The awareness level of Reinert products is growing in Romania

In May 2013, the Romanian site in Braşov recorded figures in the black for the very first time, six years after its opening. Due to the financial crisis in 2008, which badly affected South East Europe, and due to organisational problems in the start-up phase, it took some time for Reinert to position itself as premium producer in the market. Nevertheless, the site has continued to develop positively in recent years.

The Teddy Bear range has since become well established in Romania. This year, Teddy Bear cooked ham and Teddy Bear Mortadella were awarded “Product of the Year”. The award is to be displayed on the packaging for a year. In order to further increase the profile of Teddy Bear products, Reinert has launched the project “Teddy Bear Land”: “Martinel”, the Romanian name for Teddy Bear, toured schools and kindergartens over a period of four months. Through recipe brochures, planners, crafts and art events, 500 children were able to playfully discover how much fun eating together can be.

In cooperation with the Romanian key account management, Reinert has decided in favour of unique product presentation in the market: A special Reinert shelf was used in three supermarkets for a month, catching the attention of Romanian consumers. Furthermore, Gastronomic trade shows in which a chef presented and prepared sausage and meat specialities by Reinert, attracted 200 visitors. From October, there will be more innovative specialties in the product portfolio: cooked ham, cooked sausage and salami, thanks to new cutting and packaging technology.

Increasing international presence

Our other international business operations are growing too. Sweden is continuing to develop positively; Reinert barbecue products have attracted particularly strong interest. The communication measures for consumers will be intensified constantly to increase brand awareness. A print campaign was carried out this year for the first time for the popular cooked ham “Blacky”. Continuously the Teddy Bear range in France is being more and more widely distributed thanks to continually increasing sales. The Thamina halal range in France is also on the rise and has the even greater potential of over 5 million Muslims.

Looking forward, Reinert plans to expand its international business in the countries it currently operates in with new products and open up new markets for the long-term. Supply of Reinert products from Romania to the Czech Republic and Slovakia is already under negotiation with an international key account in Eastern Europe.
