The Reinert Group

When brothers Hermann and Ewald Reinert started their own small butcher’s shop in 1931, in the Westphalian town of Loxten, they could never have dreamed that a “private meat producer” would grow and eventually become an international consortium. Today the H. & E. Reinert Group employs around 1,400 people at six production locations. However, to this day Reinert is committed to the idea of its two founders, namely to combine – as a family-run company – craftsman‘s values with state-of-the-art technology.

From 1998 to 2002, Reinert took over three regional raw ham production facilities. Since 1998, Schinken Einhaus GmbH & Co. KG in Friesoythe (Lower Saxony) has been part of the Group, and in the following year Reinert purchased Original Holsteiner Katenschinken GmbH & Co. KG in Brunsbek (Schleswig-Holstein). 2002 saw the acquisition of WUFA Schwarzwälder Schinken-Spezialitäten GmbH & Co. KG in Lörrach. Finally, in 2003, came the takeover of Sickendiek Fleischwarenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG in Neuenkirchen-Vörden (Lower Saxony). In 2007, two important steps were taken towards internationalisation. First of all H. & E. Reinert S.R.L. commenced production in Brasov, in Romania: secondly, Reinert took over ARRO, one of the leading importers of German sausage products in France. Today, Reinert exports its sausage and ham specialities to more than thirty countries.

Westphalian ham from Schinken Einhaus

The Schinken Einhaus production facility in Friesoythe stands for hand-made-quality raw ham. Here, in the Oldenburger Münsterland region, ham production has been a tradition since the Middle Ages. At Schinken Einhaus, varied ham specialities – from mildly smoked farmhouse ham to air-dried country ham – are to this day manufactured according to handed-down recipes.

Original Holstein Ham

Original Holstein Cottage Ham is manufactured in Brunsbek. It is a traditional product with the unmistakable rural flavour of the north. In the traditional manner, it is salted and cured by hand with the bone in, after which the leg is cold-smoked over beech wood. The cottage ham is given plenty of time to mature until the meat is tender and juicy and its typically mild aroma has completely developed. Reinert Original Holstein Cottage Ham is a regional product full of character. It bears the association mark of the “Schutzgemeinschaft der Schleswig-Holsteiner Schinkenhersteller e.V.” (Association for Protection of Schleswig-Holstein Ham Manufacturers).

Original Black Forest Ham

It is the culinary ambassador of the Black Forest and Germany‘s favourite regional ham: Original Black Forest Ham. The Reinert production facility in Lörrach (Baden-Württemberg) has been manufacturing this speciality for more than fifty years using traditional smoking and maturing methods. The distinctive feature of this ham – besides its typically spicy aroma of juniper berries and peppercorns – is that it is smoked over pure pine wood. Original Black Forest Ham is a top quality regional product and bears the protected designation of origin “Schwarzwälder Schinken“ (Black Forest Ham).
